BABYLON MYSTERY ORCHESTRA - AXIS OF EVIL
INDEPENDENT
METAL TO INFINITY
For everyone who has never heard of Babylon Mystery Orchestra - this is an American one man project formed by a guy named Sidney Allen Johnson. An individual that does not shy to reflect its own vision on the world by making music. Several aspects from daily life ranges from religion, politics to senseless war situations, terrorism, socialism are taken into consideration in its songs. The world of today has to do with a lot of meaningless facts - unfortunately, I'm afraid to tell there's nothing we can do the stop all the madness but my respect for musicians making music with a 'message' is sincere!
Sidney Allen Johnson is a true 'crusader' who ends up for its own meaning and that's great to me. No beating around the bush or backstabbing situations - no way, if he has something to say... I'm sure he will stand his own ground to tell what's on his mind right in your face - an artist with an open mind he really is!!
''Axis Of Evil'' is Babylon Mystery Orchestra's fourth effort - this is my first contact with his music so don't ask about the past works. Regarding the complete packaging of this new output, I can tell you all at most positive that all looks very professional. As for the booklet only (at least 32 pages!) - vast, informative to the bone, quality paper,... all looks really outstanding. The cover art reflects a lot to me - a glowing, blooded sphere supported by a pentagram image. I give my own imagination 'free course'.
Also, the production of ''Axis Of Evil'' is amazingly worked out, heavy and not too polished - I can fulfully deal with that but the most important point must be taken into consideration, I mean the style of music. I'd like to be honest and say that it's goddamn hard to outline a picture of BBO's type of music. I've several times listened to this CD, each time I became assault by different feelings. Making a comparison is impossible so you can be sure you got a very original album in hands when you consider to purchase of course. To me, a blend of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music, submerged with influences from the world of Gothic. I'm not a fan of Gothic music at all so I can't concentrate / amuse myself while listening to the entire album. To be honest, it all sounds to monotone to me. As pure Metal maniac, ''Axis Of Evil'' does not have the necessary element on board able to please me completely. The vocal lines do sound weird to me, tearing guitar rhythms and 'being scorched' solo's to be lacking.
I'm quite convinced that BMO's mastermind Sidney Allen Johnson is pleased with the final result of his fourth album. Unwilling as he sounds and probably is, there must be a fan base for this type of music for sure. I tried this album out for several times - unfortunately, I couldn't made up my mind for real so I don't feel the 'rush' while listening - not impressed with this type of music. Some kind of a weird but unique output all over to me, fans of mixed up Hard Rock / Doom / Heavy and Gothic Metal music will have a ball with it for sure.
