SAVIOR FROM ANGER - LOST IN THE DARKNESS
ROCK IT UP RECORDS
METAL TO INFINITY
From Rock It Up Records I received a CD from the Italian Savior From Anger. Until now I heard plenty of good CD's from this German label and meanwhile I know that Franko and I have a similar taste in Metal. Both are children of the Eighties Heavy Metal scene and both are still searching for bands that have or search their inspiration in the music of that era. Franko promised me I would like this one so it didn't take that long to give this CD a spin... and another... and another.
Yes, especially the very first song gets all of my attention, a track called 'Claustrophobia'. It's a good up tempo Speed Metal song with tight riffs, blistering drums and clear strong vocals. This song is strongly influenced by US Power / Thrash Metal and contains several breaks. The choruses get me easily into the right rhythm! The high scream in the middle is just the way I want my Metal to sound, the following guitar solo is good played and the Thrashy middle piece sounds great. Savior From Anger puts a lot of energy into this song and I hope this will last during the entire CD. Does it? No, unfortunately not but it shows what this band is capable of... I'll make myself clear later on.
'Victim Of Rage' is another good track, with good riffing guitars and once again great vocals. Not that I feel the 'rage' in the song, the vocals are therefore not aggressive enough and that might be a conclusion for the entire CD. Good musicianship, decent vocals although they don't always fit with each other. Savior From Anger declares them self as a Speed / Thrash Metal band, for me they're often too mellow for it. With 'No Way Out' these Italians are again on the path they need to follow, if you would ask me because the undertone of anger into this track! It is a kind of song fans of Toxik and Realm would adore, another mind blowing one! With 'Killing Greed' Savior From Anger chooses again for a more traditional sound with an amazing soft middle part and emotional solo. The song contains great arrangements; breathing pureness and making you play imaginary guitars!
Overall Savior From Anger delivers great stuff; Metal with the capital M! The only problem I have with this album is that it is often hard to find a red line into this record. With 'Double shot' these Italians let us hear a total different sound; a more Hard Rocking song with even a bit of Glam Metal ingredients, think Tesla or even Guns 'n Roses with equal good solos. 'Mindstruck' on the other hand is once more a fast and powerful energizing and dynamic song! The ballad 'Through This Life' is too cheesy for me and it is the most obvious song that doesn't fit at all with the rest of this album! I keep on hearing interesting melodies and strong vocals, you don't hear me complain. On the other hand I need to say that I like varied CD's but I have the feeling this band searches too hard for the right path... Don't get me wrong here; Savior From Anger is far better than a lot of releases I've heard lately but in my opinion these guys need to put their strongest points into the spotlights; Power Thrash with high pitched vocals!
It's a pity I wasn't satisfied all over. If Savior From Anger would release a full album in every style they're experimenting with I'm quite sure would rate each of them pretty high. My points are still high but I keep on living with the feeling there were more possibilities. I'm quite sure the follow up album will give a more concrete image of the band. Nevertheless this is a CD you need to check out! http://www.myspace.com/marcoruggiero or http://http://www.rockitup.org My Points: 85/100 (Review by Officer Nice)
