More Doom Metal is heading in my direction. It was until I really overviewed this CD and cover I noticed NSP / Eyes Like Snow seems to be a label, specialized in Doom Metal. I don’t really know if it is so hard for this type of bands to get signed, what I do know is that Doom Metal fanatics are often obsessed by this kind of Metal. I suppose the former of this label is such a fanatic.
The Wandering Midget is without any doubt influenced by the Seventies Heavy Metal scene and Psychedelic Rock. The obscure sound of this band is often called 'love it or hate' but I can stay neutral. I admit it is not exactly my cup of tea but this kind of bands always seems to receive their goal to touch the soul of the listeners. I suppose it is because I am a child of the Seventies and Eighties I get touched by them.
This band has attention for the psychedelic elements and for pure depressing music. Overall this formation is musical wise strong enough although the production is rather poor. What I do like about the band is their gloom, their focus on darkness. Fans of the very first NWOBHM bands and the beginning US Metal bands, like Cirith Ungol, will surely adore these guys.
Samuel Wormius is the leading man of this band and he has a very special voice. His throat is clear but contains a bit of a raw touch. At some other points the strength of his voice is pretty remarkable, even reminding me to Saviour Machine. Saviour Machine is more modern, more powerful, less dated (and to me less boring but that’s a pure personal statement).
