THRASH CLASH VOLUME TWO
STORMSPELL RECORDS
METAL TO INFINITY
Here we go again for a pure Thrash Metal feast! After the release of the first volume of the ''Thrash Clash'' Stormspell Records released this follow up. More is already announced...
At our website you can already read the review of Diamond Plate's ''Mountain Of Madness'' EP. It was rated 90/100 and compared with the traditional Bay Area Thrash Metal gems. Musical wise I do agree you can hear awesome crunchy riffs, devastating, furious arrangements and neck breaking speed. The calm intro is the beginning of a few familiar sounding super fast Thrash Metal songs. All contains tight riffs, threatening and menacing performed. Looking at the band's picture I am astonished by the fact these guys are just a bunch of youngsters.
In Thrash Metal that can mean a lot, or how old do you think the members of Death Angel and Metallica were when they started to conquer the world? A weak point, to me, are the vocals! The reason is pretty obvious to me; they are not harsh enough at the one side or should I say not melodic enough on the other? Jon Macac is screaming out loud but he doesn't own a remarkable voice at all. Although the total concept, overpowering and screaming guitars included, pleases me I think Diamond Plate has to go look for a good singer. I'm convinced it will lift the band to a higher level! http://www.myspace.com/diamondplate1
Oppression isn't an American band. These guys are from out of Sweden and prove that there's more than Black, Death and Power Metal in this Scandinavian country. The first tunes of this band are blowing me away! I am a big fan of Thrash Metal with clean vocals and this band seems to have everything I am looking for. First of all there are the riffs; very tight, ripping and crunchy guitars with a lot of breaks. Oppression seems to be the kind of technical Thrash Metal, adding good feeling melodic solos in their songs. The breaks are well chosen and so you can hear a lot of variation in each song.
Musical wise Oppression is very good comparable with Vio-lence, not by coincidence one of my favorite Thrash Metal bands of all time. Most remarkable member of the band is singer Olof Wikstrand. This guy perfectly knows how a Thrash Metal vocalist should sound. He has a clear voice and often he screams out loud; I just love it! I suppose Sean Killian of Vio-lence was a big example for him because often he's wailing his vocal lines, just as Sean Killian did. Olof Wikstrand has the right power in his voice and along with the fast and aggressive music I get my kick out of this band.
I noticed this band before at Myspace.com but the fact I own their EP, thanks to Stormspell Records, is making me proud. I can't wait for an official debut by Oppression and I hope there will be some mid-tempo songs as well. This band is highly recommended for fans of Vio-lence and Death Angel.
