METAL TO INFINITY

Damn, I was so convinced of the strength of the German Metal scene but a few CD's I received the last weeks are making me doubt. Once again I was obliged to make a review about a German band, Trustgame and these guys are making it pretty difficult to me.

The front cover already shows this isnet a pure Metal band, the first spin proves me right. Trustgame is more some kind of Grunge Rock, the kind of music that was incredible popular at the early nineties. The members of Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam became rich celebrities. To be honest they also destroyed the Metal culture but let's not discuss this in the review of Trustgame.

Musical wise Trustgame is a pure Grunge band and to be honest it is not particular my 'cup of tea'. Each time I hear this kind of music some unpleasant cold shivering is making part of me. I am convinced that fans of this kind of Music will adore this one. I doubt the Metal To Infinity webzine is attractive to these youngsters, anyhow if they're reading my review they should immediately buy this one. Frontman Thorsten, who reminds me of Bruce Dickinson on the front cover, has a good and strong voice. If we talk about his voice I have to say he has a typical sound for this kind of music and his range is very wide. Without any doubt he's the perfect front man and he owns the key to make Trustgame a successful band.

The rhythms are catchy and melodic, ideal for the Werchter Festival (Belgium) crowd. Don't expect spectacular guitar works, this ain't the music for it but in its style the strings are very good pulled. Trustgame knows how to write a good song and using for example the accordion in 'Good-bye Harbour'  makes them respectful for searching new boundaries in their style.

Trustgame is a bench of good musicians, fronted by a good singer. The Grunge isn't actually popular anymore and it makes this band more respectful because they don't follow the newest trends. If you play this kind of music nowadays it is because of the love for it. For the fans it is a top-album, for pure Metal heads it is one to try out. My Points: 85/100 (Review by Officer Nice)
